Clotilde Sánchez was born in the countryside, in 1941 in Cororó, in the department of Chocó. His skin is furrowed by the passage of time, from laughing so much a smile has been drawn on his face.

She is eighty-one years old and four more women from her lineage are midwives, she is the mother of Aleida, grandmother of Yuri and Yelisa, great-grandmother of Yazmary- the youngest "midwife" of the entire association-._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_ She had two daughters and two sons, whom she left alone. With some shyness but with great pride he says:

“I've been parting for a long time, I haven't even counted, because I never believed that this could reach an extreme. I deliver my deliveries alone. I learned from a lady named María Belinda Ramírez, she died a long time ago, she taught me. Cloti told me, come share it, he explained the position and some things to me and that's how it was. I graduated (laughs)."

Her story exemplifies how the legacy of midwifery is transmitted, it is always through other midwives and through the experience that their knowledge acquires. When I ask her about the value of traditional midwifery, she laughs:"I don't know how to read, I don't know about those things."

Actually there is nothing to explain, her life is a living testimony of the value of midwifery, the girls and boys she successfully received, all the women she cared for and advised in their pregnancies are that immense heritage that lives in her hands and memories. .

He looks up as if searching for an answer and reflects on the recognition of the midwives:

People do not have resources, so what can you charge them? But it is valuable work.

Faced with gaps in the health system, they respond to the needs of their communities. ASOREDIPARCHOCÓ accompanies them by providing supplies and training. The dream of its members is the social and economic recognition of the work they do every day with love, experience and commitment.
